A Lease to Paradise for PTS has been programmed for Taiwanese American Heritage Week on KCET
A Lease to Paradise, one of the award-winning TV movies made for Life Stories, the drama slate on PTS Taiwan, has been selected and will make its American debut on KCET, May 15th through a collaboration with Taiwanese American Heritage Committee over the coming Taiwanese American Heritage Week in mid May, which is the special theme based programming on KCET since its inception in 2002.
Taiwanese American Heritage Week, founded by Taiwanese American Heritage Committee which started in May, 2002 running in partnership on KCET, the West Coast flagship station of Public Television Service or PBS, has demonstrated a successful collaboration with the mainstream media and ethic minorities. At the time, Grandma and Her Ghosts, and From Prison to Power, had both been selected for TAHK in 2002. And to expand the early success of the programming which aims to support cultural exchange across the Pacific Ocean, A Lease to Paradise, selected to be programmed for the second TAHK on KCET, has been scheduled to broadcast at PM11:00 on May 15th, 2004.
Relaxing, not imposing, though its subject matter is indeed somber, A Lease to Paradise is not a story limited to the local audience, but looks at life through the eyes of an old lady from a fishing village, who incessantly fights to preserve a "home" of her deceased loved ones and herself for afterlife. Yet many facets of life she has never experienced still confront her. Brought together by fate, a group of people that have suffered misfortune then join hands to support each other in an unfamiliar place.
To further commemorate the bilateral collaboration with KCET for the first time, PTS will provide online services of the program before its release date for Saturday, May 15th, to allow the viewers and web users to watch the program for free preview from May 8th to May 22nd. In addition, Xie, Uei-xia, the leading actress of A Lease to Paradise and well achieved Taiwan Opera performing artist as well, will also be phone interviewed about her career and the behind the scenes story of the program by local radios in California during the time.
